Mosquito Bites vs. Flea & Tick Bites
It can be easy to mistake a mosquito bite for a flea or tick bite; they all can result in itchy bumps on the skin. However, there are key differences between them, namely their appearance, location, and itchiness.
Let us start with appearance. Mosquito bites tend to be raised, red bumps with a white center. They may also appear in a line or cluster on the skin. On the other hand, flea bites are typically smaller and more concentrated than mosquito bites. Tick bites often resemble target-shaped rashes or blisters.
As for location, mosquitoes tend to bite exposed areas of skin, such as arms and legs. Fleas will also bite calves, ankles, and feet. Ticks prefer areas with moisture and heat, such as the scalp, armpits, and groin area.
Finally, the itchiness varies between these three pests. Mosquito bites usually cause mild to moderate itching lasting a few days. Flea bites can result in intense itching that lasts for weeks if not treated properly. Tick bites may not itch at all. Some are allergic to ticks and can experience burning, stinging, or swelling at the site of a bite.
